Roy & Louima v. Vidéotron Ltd.,
Status of the Settlement
On December 16, 2025, the representatives of the Class Actions, Guylaine Roy and Lovens Louima, and the Defendant Videotron entered into a settlement agreement (the "Agreement") to put an end to these two cases. This Agreement can be consulted on this website. The key terms and conditions of the Agreement are set out in the pre-approval notice of the Agreement, a copy of which is also available on this website. The Agreement is conditional on the approval of the Superior Court of Quebec.
On January 8, 2026, the Superior Court of Quebec has:
- Approved the process that Members must follow to exclude themselves from the class actions and the application of the Agreement;
- Approved the manner and timeframe in which Members may provide or update their email address in order to receive compensation under the Agreement, to the extent that it is approved;
- Approved the process by which Members may comment on or object to the Agreement;
- Approved the form, content and method of distribution of the Pre-approval Notice;
- Appointed Concilia Services Inc. to act as Administrator; and
- Set a hearing date to May 4, 2026, to approve the Agreement.
A hearing has been scheduled on May 4, 2026, to approve the Agreement. This hearing will be held at the Montreal Courthouse at 1 Notre-Dame Street East, Montreal, Province of Quebec, H2Y 1B6. You can attend this hearing in person in the room that will be indicated on Class Counsel's website or virtually by using the Teams link that will also be provided on Class Counsel's website.
Am I Eligible?
If the Agreement is approved by the Superior Court of Quebec, you will be eligible to receive compensation if:
In the Roy Class Action:
- You are a natural person;
- You were domiciled in Québec;
- You entered into a mobile phone contract with Videotron between February 6, 2018, and July 13, 2021;
- You were charged for a SIM card at the time of entering into this mobile phone contract;
- Your mobile phone contract does not mention these SIM card fees.
In the Louima Class Action:
- You are a natural person;
- You were already a Videotron customer as of 6 February 2018;
- You renewed your mobile device (meaning you acquired a new mobile phone from Videotron) remotely, either by phone or online, between 6 February 2018 and 6 October 2021;
- You were charged SIM card fees upon this renewal, without having requested a new SIM card.
What is the amount of compensation?
If the Agreement is approved by the Superior Court of Quebec, Videotron agrees to pay the Members compensation in the amount of $1,125,000, to be distributed between Members in the conditions described in the Agreement or in the pre-approval notice of the Agreement, a copy of which is also available on this website.
If you are a Member and have not opted out, you will receive compensation representing a minimum of 19.15% of the value of the charged SIM card. This corresponds to a minimum of $1.92 per eligible SIM card valued at $10; and/or $0.96 per eligible SIM card valued at $5.
What do I need to do to receive compensation?
If the Superior Court of Quebec approves the Agreement, you will be eligible for compensation under the following terms:
- For Members who are still active customers of Videotron during distribution, you don't need to do anything. Your compensation will be automatically applied to one of your bills.
- For Members who are no longer Videotron customers during distribution, you must submit your email address on this website using the "Submit your email address" tab. Otherwise, your compensation will be sent to the last email address on file with Videotron. If you do not provide an email address on our website and Videotron does not have your email address, you will not be able to receive compensation. The deadline to provide your email address is the business day following the expiry of the appeal period of the judgement approving the Agreement.
